SUCCESS STORIES START AT TBCC

TBCC Helping Students Achieve
Their Educational Goals for 30 Years!
An Interview with James H. "Jamie" Wakefield III

TBCC: What are your hobbies?
Jamie: I enjoy photography, piano, running, hiking, cross-country skiing, soccer and spending time with family and friends.

TBCC: What high school did you graduate from?
Jamie: I am a home school graduate. I was home schooled K - 12 in Bay City.

TBCC: Tell us a little about your family?
Jamie: My family is a very important part of my life. My parents are Jim and Barb Wakefield and I have three younger brothers; Daniel (18) also a home school graduate and currently a student at TBCC, Timothy (15), and Benjamin (8).

TBCC: Anything of interest you would like to share about yourself?
Jamie: I started my own photography business two years ago, specializing in weddings, events and portraits. I also have my own health coaching business. I am a volunteer firefighter and EMT with the Bay City Volunteer Fire Department. I enjoy serving my community and helping people. I am active in my church, Christ Reformation Church, where I have attended for 18 years.

TBCC: What brought you to TBCC?
Jamie: I have lived in Tillamook County since I was three years old. TBCC seemed like a natural place to start my college education. I considered the location, class sizes, and instructor availability to the student as important assets.

TBCC: What are your plans when you are finished at TBCC?
Jamie: I will be graduating from TBCC this June with an Associate of General Studies Degree and a 2-year Emergency Medical Technician Certificate. I plan to transfer into a Paramedic program this fall and continue my education in emergency medicine. My goal is to earn my Paramedic certification and serve my local community here in Tillamook County.

TBCC: Do you have a favorite TBCC instructor?
Jamie: I can't really say that I have a "favorite" instructor. I enjoyed all of Fred Bennett's writing classes. Dr Bob's classes are always a challenge! I appreciate that Dr. Bob really wants to see every student succeed. Spanish with Jose Solano included so much more than just learning a foreign language. Trisha Moore has been a great encouragement to me in my pursuit of EMS. All of the instructors I have had at TBCC have their own strengths and have given me a broad base in my education. Thank you to all of you who have had me as a student in your class!

TBCC: How has TBCC influenced your future?
Jamie: My very first class at TBCC was Introduction to Emergency Medicine with Robin Pepper. This class was the springboard to a future in emergency services. Without the EMS classes I have taken at TBCC I may never have realized that emergency services was something that I could really do--that it wasn't just a little boy's dream to be a Fireman or a Paramedic. I might not have ever joined the Bay City Volunteer Fire Department where I have been volunteering for the past 2 years. I certainly wouldn't have thought that I would be where I am today, ready to start the Paramedic program.

TBCC: What has been the biggest change at TBCC since you have been attending?
Jamie: The new college campus has been the biggest change. The new building is really nice; with classes in one building, biology in one classroom instead of three, and so much more. Although I am glad that I had the experience of the old buidlings. I can say that my biology lab was in the old prep room of a mortuary and some of my college classes were in part of an old grade school!

TBCC: In your opinion, what are the greatest things about TBCC?
Jamie: I feel the greatest assets are the small class sizes and the opportunity that each student has for one-on-one time with the instructors. Also, Pat Ryan--Pat takes personal interest in the students, always has a cheerful attitude, an encouraging word, and is consistently behind the scene supporting the students. Thank you Pat!
