Local Scholarships


Important Financial Aid Announcements


  • Financial Aid Students must submit a copy of their award letter to the Bookstore or Business office after accepting it online in order to charge books.


  • TBCC financial aid students are encouraged to use direct deposit for quickest access to their funds. Students not using direct deposit will have a check mailed to the address on file. Caution: Students taking only PCC courses must accept a refund method at PCC.


  • The 2012-2013 FAFSA application will be available beginning Jan. 1 2012 at www.fafsa.gov. Apply early to receive financial aid next year.

Types of Financial Aid Available


Grants

  • Federal PELL Grant: A need-based program offered to students who do not have a Bachelor's degree. The Pell grant is prorated for students with less than full-time enrollment levels.
  • 12 + Credits

  • Oregon Opportunity Grant (OOG): A need-based program eligible to Oregon residents who are enrolled at least half time during fall, winter, and spring terms. Students should apply to FAFSA early to be considered for this grant.

  • Opportunity Grant (SEOG): A need-based program available to students enrolled at least half time fall, winter and spring terms. Students must apply to FAFSA early and demonstrate exceptional financial need to qualify.

Work Study


  • Federal Work Study (FWS): A need-based program available to students who apply for FAFSA early and who demonstrate exceptional financial need. Employment opportunities at Tillamook Bay Community College are available ON CAMPUS ONLY. Students must be at least half time and can only begin working after the FWS award has been offered and accepted and all forms are complete. See PCC Work study for more information.

  • Institutional Work Study: Available to students who are registered at least half time. Positions are limited and awarded on a first come first serve basis Applicants are required to apply every year. When available, applications are located with the scholarship applications in the main lobby, or contact Student Services for more information.

Loans


For students who do not qualify for grants or scholarships or need additional funds for educational expenses, there are several loan programs available. Students interested in receiving loans must be registered for a minimum of 6 credits.

  • Federal Direct Stafford Loan For information on the William D. Ford Federal Direct Stafford Loan Program, such as how much can be borrowed, interest rates, and repayment options, visit the Federal Direct Stafford Loan section of the PCC web site. For information on applying for a Federal Direct Stafford Loan, visit the Applying section.

  • Parents' Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) Parents of dependent students may also borrow monies in their name to help meet the student's educational expenses. The Federal Parents' Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) is available to parent borrowers who do not have an adverse credit history. For more information on the PLUS Program, such as how much can be borrowed, interest rates, repayment options, and how to apply, visit the Parent Loan section of the PCC website.

  • Federal Perkins Loan The Perkins Loan is a fixed 5% deferred-interest loan based on financial need as determined by federal and institutional guidelines. Portland Community College is your lending institution for this loan. No interest accrues on this loan while you are enrolled at least half-time. Repayment begins nine months after you leave PCC. You must complete an entrance counseling session each year you are awarded Perkins funds. Also required is completion of a Perkins Statement of Rights/Responsibilities, Perkins Reference Form and a Perkins Master Promissory Note. When you sign the Perkins MPN, you authorize PCC to certify new loans for the duration of your education at PCC (up to 10 years) without any further MPN signatures. When you graduate, withdraw or drop below half-time, you are required to complete an exit interview. Perkins Loans are prorated based on your enrollment.
