Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)

Financial Aid SAP will be determined for all applicants prior to being awarded financial aid and will be based on previous academic history at TBCC regardless of whether or not financial aid was received. Satisfactory Academic Progress will be reviewed after grades are posted at the end of each term.

Good Standing

• Maintaining a cumulative grade point average of a 2.0 or higher
• Successful completion of two-thirds of attempted credits each term
• Ability to complete declared degree or certificate within 150% maximum  time frame limit                                       Financial Aid Eligible

Student’s cumulative GPA dropped below 2.0, and/or did not complete two-thirds of all attempted credits in a term, and student is able to graduate within 150% maximum time frame limit.  
Financial Aid Eligible

Student must maintain 2.0 GPA and successfully complete two-thirds of attempted credits to avoid suspension.



Student did not meet SAP standards while in Warning or Probation status, or it is determined that the student will not be able to graduate within 150% maximum time frame limit, or a student in Financial Aid Academic Plan status fails to follow the plan. Students with a 0.0 GPA  in a given term will be ineligible for financial aid the next term he/she is enrolled.

Determining Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)

Students maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress through:

  • Maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher
  • Successfully completing two-thirds of attempted credits each term
  • Ability to complete declared degree or certificate within 150% of maximum time frame limit.

Successfully completed classes have the following grades: A, B, C, D and P (pass). Classes are considered attempted but not completed if they have the following grades: F, NP (no pass), W (withdraw) and I (incomplete).

Repayment of Financial Aid Funds

Students who do not successfully complete credits can be required to return financial aid as stated in Federal requirements.


Maximum Time Frame Limit

Students need to complete a program of study within 150% of the credits required.

Ex: An Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer degree that requires 90 credits must be completed within 135 attempted credits (even if financial aid is not received for all of the credits attempted).The 150% maximum credit rule is applicable to students who change their major or pursue double majors or second degrees.
