|Adult Basic Skills classes help students to improve their reading, writing, and math skills. While in class, students build upon past experience and knowledge to progress toward their educational and employment goals. Students with literacy up to pre-college math, reading, and writing ability work on developing these skills in the Adult Basic Skills class. The courses have an academic and employment focus. These classes are appropriate for students who have their high school diploma.
Adult Basic Skills classes are open to anyone over 18 who wants to improve their reading, writing, or math. Students 16-17 years old must either be exempted from compulsory high school attendance, or obtain an official GED Options release from their local high school before attending class.
New students need to attend an Orientation prior to beginning class. Orientation schedules are printed in the TBCC schedule of classes each term. Alternative Orientation dates may be arranged if needed. Please contact Adult Basic Skills at (503)842-8222 ext. 1070 for assistance.
Summer 2014 ABE/GED Information
Summer is almost upon us, and I hope you will consider continuing your education over the summer. For the summer term, we are switching things up a bit, so I wanted to take a minute to explain what we are offering during the Summer Term.
First of all, Summer Term will begin on June 23, 2014 and end on August 14, 2014.
The morning ABE/GED class will begin a bit earlier than you may be used to, but we’re still meeting Monday through Thursday. We’ll start at 8:30 a.m. and classes end at 11:20 a.m. The fee for this class will still be $15.00.
There will be no evening ABE/GED classes. Instead, I am offering a GED Language Arts class on Mondays and Wednesdays between 1:00 p.m. and 3:10 p.m. For this class, you will need to score 236 on the Reading CASAS test prior to registering for class. CASAS tests can be taken during the operating hours of the TBCC library. The fee for this class is also $15.00 and I would like you to be aware that late registrations for this class will not be accepted. Registration opens May 19, 2014.
No ESOL classes will be offered during the Summer Term.
