Response for Vignette Writing

Author:

Response group:

  1. Read one vignette aloud. Your group should listen silently with no interruptions. As you read, you will probably hear things that need fixing.
  2. After you read, your group members should give you feedback about whatever specifics you ask them to listen for and also answer the following questions. You should take notes.
  3. Does the beginning of this vignette pull the reader in? If not, what might be a more interesting idea for a lead?
  4.

  5. Is the ending satisfying? If not, why not, and how might it be improved?
  6.

  7. Does the vignette provide a complete picture of a memory? Were the listeners able to visualize as they listened?
  8.

Pick out the words and/or phrases that particularly help create visual images. Record some of them here.

If the vignette did not provide a very complete picture, what was missing? What images or descriptions or events would be helpful and create a stronger piece?

  9. Comment on the sentence fluency. Does the writing flow easily, or did it seem choppy? If the writer used sentence fragments, was this done purposely, and does it work. Are the sentences too long? Too short?
